Kids' Birthday Cake Toppers

If the buttercream is wet, sit the base on a small disc of baking paper so it comes away cleanly.

The socket takes a standard upright cake fountain — an ice fountain — and not a thin handheld sparkler. The fountain is not included; supermarkets and party shops sell them. At a children's party the rules are short and non-negotiable: an adult lights it, children stay seated and back from the table, nothing hangs above the cake (bunting, balloons and paper lanterns are the usual culprits), and nobody carries the cake while it is burning.
